Simon Cho, US Olympic Speed Skater, Speaks Out for the DREAM Act

Another twist in a story too often told -- and not heard often enough -- of the incredible talent, dedication and hard work that immigrants the world over bring to our country.  Why do we continue to turn a deaf ear to these stories?  Why do we continue to shut our doors to the talent that has made this nation great? In the words of Cho himself..."In the beginning, I found my own story to be embarrassing, but now I feel like ... I have to let people know and open people’s eyes." Yes, we have to continue telling people these stories until they open their eyes. To read the full Daily Brui

From the President of the University of Arizona

"Foreign students who have come to study at American universities are responsible for huge portions of the gains this nation has made in technology, medicine, materials, and so many other academic areas critical to our nation's defense and economic prosperity. We must do everything possible to ensure that these students continue to feel welcomed and respected, despite the unmistakably negative message that this bill sends to many of them." In his letter addressing the recent passage of Arizona's new immigration law, University of Arizona President Robert N. Shelton directly pinpoints the prob

The DREAM Walkers

Yesterday evening we packed our gear and headed to Georgetown University to hear the DREAM walkers address a crowd of young students gathered there (and to capture the event on film because Juan Gomez would also be talking there).  The original walkers are Felipe Matos, Gaby Pacheco, Carlos Roa and Juan Rodriguez and they decided to walk 1,500 miles from Miami, FL to Washington, DC, to bring attention to the plight of undocumented students in the U.S. and to fight for passage of the DREAM Act.  After almost four months of walking they are nearly at their destination.  This Saturday (May 1),

May Day for America

As a follow-up to the recent March for America immigration rally held in Washington, DC last month, citizens throughout the United States will hold demonstrations on May 1 to protest against our currently dysfunctional immigration system. After the recently approved immigration legislation in Arizona (SB 1070) and statements by both Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to bring comprehensive immigration reform to a vote this year, it seems as though the time to act is now.cooperate500 fast cash loans small I encourage you to check out if a group near you wi

Arizona Stirs Things Up

It looks like things are heating up on the immigration front!  Whereas just a few weekends ago a large-scale immigration reform rally in the nation's capital barely registered on the consciousness of the rest of the nation, subsequent events have been pushing immigration reform to the forefront of the issues list. On Friday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a controversial new immigration law that would go into effect 90 days after the Arizona legislative session ends. Opponents of the bill claim that it will encourage racial profiling, could be a "violation of the 4th Amendment, which

Senator Harry Reid

Speaking to an immigration rally crowd gathered in Las Vegas this past Saturday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada), announced that “We are going to pass comprehensive immigration reform. We need to do this this year. We can’t let excuses like a Supreme Court nomination get in the way."does not prevent applicants "This is something America needs,” Reid said. “We’re going to do immigration reform just like we did health care reform.” You can read more about his (and others' remarks) in this Las Vegas Sun article, this Huffington Post blog post and in this Washington Post
