Second Half of California DREAM Act Jumps Major Hurdle

The LA Times reports today that AB 131 (the other half of the California DREAM Act) has jumped a major hurdle and has been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee.  This means that the bill is one step closer to becoming law in the state of California, to which Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) said that he “expected the bill to pass the Senate and Assembly next week and land on the governor’s desk soon after.”

If AB 131 passes, as Assemblyman Cedillo predicts, undocumented students in California will have access to Cal Grants as well as other forms of public financial aid to help them pay for their higher education.  AB 130, which passed earlier this year, gave undocumented students in the California higher education system access to privately funded scholarships.

The LA Times story also highlights one of the possible beneficiaries of the bill:

For Javiera Infante, a 24-year-old Los Angeles Valley College student from Chile, the committee action brought her dreams of becoming a Spanish-literature professor closer to reality. Infante, who entered the United States legally with her family at age 12 but overstayed her visa, said her mother works as a day-care assistant but that money is so tight her family often has to choose between buying food and paying for schooling.

Although there are many opponents of the bill, there are also many supporters, which include:

Immigrant rights activists, faith-based organizations and both labor and business groups. Gary Toebben, president of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, said it was vital for the state’s economic future that immigrant students be equipped with education and skills to replace the millions of baby boomers who are set to retire in the next decade.  “In order for us to compete, we have to make sure we make every effort to provide the young people of our society as good of an education as we can,” he said.

This bill gives much more than “whatever is left over after LEGAL residents apply.” There are fee (tuition) waivers, other subsidies, and discretionary Board of Governors’ decisions. We are being raped. Research to find the current version at the aroundthecapital website as this forum does not allow me to post URLs. http://www.aroundthecapitol.com/Bills/AB_131/20112012/

Get ready for a civil war between states who harbor and abet ILLEGAL ALIENS and those who do not wish to dilute their society, economy, and education with them. When our government and officials openly defy the rule of law, use public funds, and put non-citizens ahead of their own and LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, it is time for a radical change. Revolution anyone?

The people who care to learn more about the madness behind these kinds of issues should research the terms: WHITE GUILT and IDIOT COMPASSION.
